Ava Fine

Ava Fine FCIPD, Dip Couns

Ava Fine is a highly experienced facilitator, organisational counsellor, and consultant. With a background in Human Resources in both the NHS and Local Government, she has extensive working experience and knowledge of a wide range of organisational settings.

Ava specialises in the area of stress management, the prevention of bullying and harassment, mediation and the promotion of health and well being in the workplace. She is also a visiting tutor on the Post Graduate Diploma for Counselling – Organisational Settings in the University of Bristol. Ava regularly runs stress awareness training for managers and teams, and frequently facilitates Stress Audit Focus Groups, having a wide knowledge of all aspects of both health and safety and employment law relating to stress.

Her key strengths are centred on organisational policy development and project management and she is the current contract holder for the assessment part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s national mark of quality in workplace health promotion, Health at Work: The Corporate Standard. As part of this work, Ava acts as Chairperson of assessment panels in a range of organisations collaborating with two other assessors to discover what is happening in the company in terms of the promotion of health in the workplace, management development and health and safety. She is also responsible for drafting the report that advises the organisation on the level of the award achieved and future areas for development.

Working for organisations large and small and from both the public and private sectors, Ava acts as a group facilitator, trainer, and consultant particularly in the area of stress and the prevention of bullying and harassment. In addition she carries out one-to-one counselling on a regular basis and works with teams where ‘people issues’ have prevented the group developing together.

Ava worked as part of a small project team evaluating health promotion initiatives in ‘small businesses’ in socio-economically deprived areas of the South Wales valleys – part of the 'Healthy Hearts' campaign – a Health Promotion Division (National Assembly for Wales) and Bro Taf Health Authority initiative. This project involved discussions at an organisational level on how best to improve the health and well-being of employees. She also co-authored an article based on research findings from the project that has recently been published in the Health Education Journal.

Ava is also a lay member of the Employment Tribunal, and has spoken on local radio and television and at local and national conferences on subjects such as stress, bullying and harassment at work, alcohol and drug policies in the workplace and the benefits of counselling and development in organisations.
